PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – Suriname-born former Dutch international Edgar Davids helped Suriname take the runner-up spot in the Parbo Bier Cup this past weekend.
French Guiana emerged champions after playing undefeated in the quadrangular tournament that also included Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda.
The 36-year-old Davids, who had a glittering professional career that included stints with big European clubs Ajax Amsterdam, Milan and Barcelona, could not prevent Suriname from going down 1-2 to French Guiana on opening night last Friday.
Suriname went on to win their other matches, including a 5-1 thrashing of Guyana.
In other results, Antigua and Barbuda, who lost 1-2 to French Guiana, defeated Guyana 2-1.
The Guyanese, using a rebuilding squad, lost 3-2 to French Guiana to end with a record of 0-3.
