Former Speaker of the National Assembly Winslow Martin Zephyr has died. He served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 23rd October 2000 until the 4th May 2001. Zephyr was appointed as Speaker following the death of the then Speaker of the House Derek Jagan. He had served at one time as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
Current Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran yesterday announced in Parliament that Zephyr had died on Wednesday evening in the USA, following a lengthy illness. A minute’s silence was observed in his memory.
Zephyr was an attorney-at-law and was a longstanding member of the PPP.
