Christopher McLean, 17, of Bel Air and Richard Philadelphia, 20, of Newtown, Kitty, were shot and injured on Norton Street on Wednesday night.
Investigations, according to police, revealed that McLean and Philadelphia were standing outside of a motor vehicle while another friend, 19-year-old Bradley Sampson of Norton Street, Lodge, remained inside. A car drove up with two men inside who discharged rounds at the trio and escaped, police said.
McLean was shot in his neck and Philadelphia to his lower back.
They have been admitted patients at a private hospital. Efforts made to contact relatives of the injured young men were futile.
However, Stabroek News was reliably informed by a source close to the parties involved that McLean and Philadelphia were in stable condition.
“He [McLean] is fine,” the source said. “He’s just in a bit of discomfort; Philadelphia is doing fine as well. They are both okay.”
When Stabroek News visited the Norton Street, Lodge area where the incident is said to have occurred several residents reported that they did not hear any gunshots before or after 8 pm on Wednesday.
Residents further said that they “noticed nothing strange happening last [Wednesday] night”.
There has been no explanation of what was behind the shooting.
