Neil Reece rode away with the Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice, George Watts’s 40 mile Memorial road race on Sunday last.
The event, which started at the junction of Main and Lad Lane Streets, saw the cyclists proceeding to Adventure on the Corentyne before returning for the finish at the point where the race commenced.
Reece completed the distance in a time of one hour, 45 minutes and 27 seconds and he was followed by Sherwin Giddings, Wasim Hasnoo, Rohan Persaud, Ayad Alli and Dwight Holder in that order.
Reece also won the juveniles category while Compton Watts took care of the competitors in the BMX category.
Marika Dick was the first female competitor to finish the race while 74 year-old Edward Williams was the oldest competitor.
He received a special prize for completing a distance of 14 miles.
The event was organized by coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club, Randolph Roberts and sponsored by Mrs. Claudette Watts, of Watts Catering Service, who is the wife of the deceased.
The club, in a release, stated that it would like to thank the Guyana Police Force, the Commander of `B’ Division and the media for their support.
