Funeral procession for chain snatcher stops at death spot

A funeral procession of six horse-drawn carts carrying relatives and friends of Gavin Paul (inset), the chain snatcher who was fatally shot on Saturday, rode past the Robb Street location where he collapsed and died. Police say they do not know the identity of the man who shot Paul in the back.

Winola Baptiste, the man’s mother, has since said that the shooter should be charged. On Saturday Paul snatched Alana Butcher’s chain at Alexander Street and North Road and made a run for it after struggling with the woman.

He was pursued by the armed man and several others, was subsequently shot and collapsed outside the Court Yard Mall on Robb Street.
