A Sophia teen was last evening being treated admitted at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after sustaining multiple stab wounds in the chest and hands which were inflicted by a friend.
Delroy Downer, 17, of 104 North Sophia was reportedly stabbed by his friend with whom he had an argument.
According to Jermaine Smartt, the injured man’s brother-in-law, Downer and his friend had an argument on Friday night regarding a motorcycle and it is believed that that grievance was held by the friend and manifested itself by him stabbing Downer.
“Dey had a lil talking over some bike riding Friday night,” Smartt said. “Me aint really know it well and now de same story come up an dey get into a scuffle and [the friend] stab me brother-in-law by he heart and on he hand,” Smartt said.
Smartt explained that he too was injured by the friend as he had tried to separate them during the scuffle. After the incident, the friend fled the scene.
Downer’s mother was in tears at the hospital repeatedly saying, “oh God, de knife guh right by he heart.” Other relatives and friends gathered at the GPH were in prayer for the youth’s life to be spared as they described his wound as life threatening.
