GDF slams four past hapless Flamingo
– Pele, Tigers rumble to stalemate
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recorded yet another Premier League victory while the first draw of the competition was confirmed in another match when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus sponsored tournament recommenced on Friday at the Tucville Playfield.
Flamingo, still in the hunt for their first Premier League victory, went down by four goals to nil to the sturdy army team in the curtain raiser of the evening’s double header while Pele FC and BK International Western Tigers played to a stalemate.
In the feature match, the senior Premier League team, Pele, were unable to finish their well built plays even though they dominated ball possession against Tigers who were unable to feed their strikers with accurate balls on many occasions.
Pele had numerous opportunities to score as they threatened the opposition’s uprights quite often but uncontrolled striking and the ability to efficiently back up shots fired at goal were their undoing.
The well-composed GDF team was able to only score once in the first 45 minutes from a Selwyn Isaacs strike in the 37th minute but turned on the heat in the final 45 minutes and scored three more goals.
After the 15-minute break, Shevon Seaforth was the next to hit the spotlight scoring for GDF in the 57th minute.
Then Seon Brewely in the 78th minute gave the army team a comfortable three goal lead and five minutes before regulation time, Orin Agard managed to squeeze in the final GDF goal.
The action continues this evening with another intriguing double header with the Georgetown Football Club meeting Sunburst Camptown in the curtain raiser at 6pm while homesters Fruta Conquerors will oppose Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United in the feature match at 8pm.
