A 35-year-old man on Thursday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to two counts of using abusive language.
It is alleged that on June 2 at Georgetown, Laured Benn of 627 D Field Sophia made use of abusive language to Walter Clarke thereby resulting in a breach of the peace. On the same day also, Benn allegedly made use of abusive language to Anecia Macy.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge with respect to Clarke and not guilty with respect to Macy.
After explaining that they had gotten into an argument with the defendant who began to verbally abuse them, the virtual complainants asked that the matter should not proceed further.
Clarke explained that the defendant who is his son-in-law had indeed used abusive language to him but he had decided to forgive him after he had apologized.
Macy, who is the mother of the defendant’s child, also asked that the matter against him be dropped although he maintained that he never abused her verbally.
The fish vendor was subsequently ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 or serve six months imprisonment with respect to the matter against Clarke and he was ordered to pay $5,000 costs and placed on a one-year bond with reference to Macy’s matter.
