BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Teenaged batting sensation Kraigg Brathwaite tuned up for this summer’s TCL West Indies Under-19 tournament by stroking his maiden Barbados Division One hundred on Saturday.
Playing at the Bank Hall ground for Barbados Youth against Empire, Brathwaite stroked 154 to boost his team’s total to 399 all out.
The two-time CLICO West Indies Under-15 tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), batted 408 minutes and faced 292 balls in his innings.
Kyle Mayers (90 not out) also scored heavily for the youngsters.
Empire were 72 without loss in reply at stumps.
At 3Ws Oval, Windward Islands players Miles Bascombe and Romel Currency helped UWI to first innings honours over Pickwick.
Bascombe top-scored with 61 and his Vincentian colleague Currency got 59, while player/coach Floyd Reifer also played well for 56 as UWI posted 250 for nine declared in reply to Pickwick’s 165 all out. Pickwick were 34 for one at stumps in the second innings.
Also getting a hundred on Saturday was Derick Bishop, who cracked 112 not out for St Catherine as they closed at 316 for five in response to Wanderers’ 308 for four declared.
Bishop belted 16 fours in his innings and got support from Renaldo Kellman (66) and veteran Thelston Payne (52 not out).
Martin Nurse, who scored 209 not out in Wanderers’ first innings, picked up four for 61 to be his side’s chief wicket-taker.
