HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Batsman David Hemp wants to continue playing for Bermuda but has ruled himself out of the race to replace Gus Logie as Bermuda’s next national in favour of a long-term teaching job at Solihull School in England.
Trinidadian Logie has decided to move on after his four-year contract ends in September, hugely disappointed at Bermuda’s performance in the 2011 World Cup qualifying campaign in South Africa in April when the team failed to book a place for the tournament in Asia, having made their debut in the competition two years ago in the Caribbean.
Criteria laid down by the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) for the role, a Level Three coach with past playing experience and a degree, seemed tailor-made for Hemp, who is in the process of gaining his ECB Level Four Coaching Award.
But the 38-year-old left-hander, who left Bermuda as a youngster and was one of the few success stories to come out of the qualifying campaign in April, has said that although he knew the position had been advertised, he had not yet even looked at the job description.
