Husband charged, remanded
The husband of Krishandai Singh, the Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara woman, who was stabbed to death on Friday, appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with murder and was remanded to prison.
Ganesh Narine, 36, a labourer of Cornelia Ida, was not required to plead to the capital offence and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that last Friday at Cornelia Ida, he murdered Singh. Police had said investigations revealed that Narine “allegedly went home under the influence of alcohol and was preparing to cook a meal during which an argument ensued between them. He is reported to have armed himself with a knife and stabbed Singh to her chest”.
Relatives said Singh had asked Narine to leave the house and while he was shouting at her, he stabbed her. Following the incident, he fled, but was captured three hours later.
It was reported that the 50-year-old woman had suffered more than a decade of abuse at the hands of Narine. She had sustained a single stab wound to her heart, doctors had told relatives.
Narine will return to court on July 1 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
