LONDON, (Reuters) – Pakistan completed an untroubled 39-run win over Ireland at the Oval yesterday in their final Twenty20 World Cup second round match.
The Pakistanis finished the Super Eight stage with two wins from three games. Sri Lanka (two victories) and New Zealand (one) meet at Trent Bridge today (1230GMT) in a game which will decide the two semi-finalists from Group F.
Kamran Akmal struck 57 from 51 balls in Pakistan’s 159 for five while Shahid Afridi, promoted to number three, smashed 24 from 13.
Ireland, who knocked Bangladesh out of the tournament in the first round and extended Sri Lanka in the second, collapsed to 120 for nine in reply.
