Rehabilitation works have started at the Palms Geriatric Institution.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release workers are currently erecting two new reservoirs to boost water supply and they will soon build a recreation facility which is expected to boast a TV room, a games room, a gym and a canteen. Also, Block Three will be painted and the windows repaired soon.
GINA said too a contract for the construction of a sterilization unit has already been awarded and works will soon start. This unit is intended to treat and dress the wounds of diabetic patients on site instead of transferring them to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The Palms currently houses 208 residents who are over the age of 65. It is fully funded by government and is operated by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
A full-time welfare officer addresses residents’ problems and liaises with their relatives. The 24-hour care service is manned by a team headed by an administrator.
