The Georgetown City Council recently received two new vehicles valued $3m.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release on March 19, Government and the City Council signed an MoU that would allow the Council to get an additional $120M along with two vehicles for the constabulary and five computers for the Information Communication Technology strategy at City Hall. GINA said $260M had already been budgeted for the City Council this year.
The fund is expected to aid in maintaining the city’s roadways and will be released over a one-year period. The computers have already been handed over to the Council. The vehicles are expected to be used by the City Constabulary to help them to execute their mandate.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Kellawan Lall said that the vehicles are necessary to aid the Constabulary in conducting its duties. He said government is hopeful that they will be used to increase the presence of the Municipality in the streets.
Additionally, Chief Constabulary Officer Gail George said the new vehicles will help it to monitor far-flung areas in the city such as Agricola and Cummings Lodge.
