Eleven ‘flowers in bloom’ will show their true colours come September 22 when the Miss Guyana Talented Teen pageant is held.
However, long before that the 11 teenagers vying for this year’s title are expected to participate in a reality television show ‘On the road to becoming a beauty queen’ and one of the talented teen’s annual highlights – the Cotillion.
The pageant, a Simpli Royal signature event is held each year under the theme ‘Flowers in Bloom’. This year’s contestants, who were sashed on Sunday last, have each identified with the flower they believe best portrays them.
Marisa Adams is a sunflower. She says she personifies its radiance. This teen is a rock music fan, loves the Pussy Cat Dolls and Timeka Marshall and believes family is important.
Jenelle Babb says she is as sweet as a rose. Happiness is important to her so she tries to stay positive and possesses the ability to be grateful for life as it is. This calypso singer says Shelly G is her favourite local artist.
Raquyyah Boyer chose the anthurium lily, saying she identifies with it because she was referred to as a tomboy. What’s important to her is preserving her self respect and standards. An alternative rock fan, she likes the Kelly Clarkson song “Break Away“ and her favourite artiste is Timeka Marshall also.
Annalisa Austin says she is versatile like the hibiscus. She loves soul music, Celine Dion and Timeka Marshall. Family is the most important thing she feels.
Criselle Alleyne describes herself as precious and rare just like the orchid. Her favourite music forms are soca and culture and she loves Michelle ‘Big Red’ King. She has her heart set on becoming a successful accountant by year 2015.
Sarah Gannie says she is like the Bouganvillea; varied depending on the situation. My family is important to me, she says. Her favourite local artiste is Eddie Neblett and she loves R&B, soul and gospel.
Kiswana Jefford who says she is like the brilliant, colourful heliconia, loves gospel, R&B and Eddie Neblett. For her the most important thing is staying focused.
Toshanna Allicock, believes she is most like the radiant buttercup. R&B is my kind of music, she says and she loves Timeka Marshall. Family is most important to her.
Teneisa Piggott says she is just like the ginger lily, vibrant and strong. Her favourite music is soul and she admires Celeste David.
Madonna Gannhi’s like the beautiful cannonball flower, which she says is used in the Hindu religion to worship Lord Shiva. Education is what is important to her. Her favourite local artiste is Timeka Marshall and she loves soul and hip-hop.
Meenakshi Khubir says she has strong roots like the Victoria Regia lily. She loves soul music and Timeka Marshall and believes family is the most important thing.
