There were victories for Sunburst Camptown and Uprising Football teams in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier and Western Union First Division Football Leagues at the Tucville Playfield on Friday evening.
In the double header which began at 6pm Uprising’s four goals overpowered Beacon’s one in the curtain raiser while Camptown stormed three goals past the hapless Pele team in the feature encounter on the rain-hit day.
Led by an Omali Nassy hat-trick, Uprising won the battle with superior game play, getting off good passes despite the soggy outfield which contributed to numerous plays being broken down and loss of ball possession.
Nassy’s first half hat-trick (12th, 25th and 37th) completely stunned the opposition giving them no chance of scoring in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was completely different from that of the first as both Uprising and Beacon were only able to score once.
Dwayne Dickson scored in the 47th for Uprising while Leon Fredericks netted Beacon’s only goal.
Spectators then witnessed the Pele/Camptown clash which saw Pele attacking in the opening moments. But the momentum soon shifted when Camptown’s Lance Rawlston drew first blood for his team in the 16th minute.
National senior defender Rishawn Sandiford was the next to go on the ball and sink Pele by two when he scored in the 49th then Telston McKinnon put the icing on the cake in the 63rd minute and ended Pele’s run 3 – 0.
