A day of activities has been planned for Sunday by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) to mark the occasion of Olympic Day.
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the theme for this year’s Olympic Day is “Move, Learn and Discover.”
The GOA has requested several national federations/associations to organize activities on Sunday.
The activities will be structured around the three themes. The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) in collaboration with the GOA plans to hold a mini-meet under the pillar `Discover’ which is expected to encourage the public to “discover and practice” swimming.
This mini-meet is expected to last a maximum of two hours and will comprise only freestyle events.
Two trophies will be presented, one for the club or group which gets the highest total points and one for the person (not registered with GASA) who has highest individual points.
There will be no entry fees for this competition and entries will be accepted up to one event in advance.
This meet is not only for competitive swimmers and there is no age limit. The only requirement is that you can swim at least two lengths of the pool in freestyle.
A fund-raising breakfast will also be held during this event to help raise funds to assist the swimmers who will represent Guyana at this year’s Goodwill Swimming Champion-ships.
Anyone requiring more information may go to the Colgrain Pool, Camp Street during normal working hours (phone number 226-0397) or phone the secretary of GASA on 660-4289.
