Dear Editor,
Permit me a few lines to speak about a little problem that has been bothering me (and I am sure other viewers) for a while. I refer to the bombardment of advertisements that NCN tends to broadcast during most cricket matches.
I am a passionate follower of this noble game, and I tune in whenever I can to catch the action. On Sunday, I tuned into NCN to follow the ICC World T20 final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Instead of being treated to full coverage of what turned out to be a very good cricket match, I was constantly robbed by NCN sneaking in advertisements between overs, sometimes running two ads and overlapping into the new over resulting in a ball or two being missed.
I understand that our sponsors, whom I salute, need to get their companies promoted. What I can’t understand is why this is being done at the expense of the coverage of the cricket they are sponsoring. On several occasions in the past, after becoming fed up with the barrage of ads, I had to turn to another channel to catch the game. This channel, while it does broadcast ads, does so very tactfully so as not to intrude on the cricket.
It’s funny; NCN calls itself the cricket channel. Maybe they should modify this to ‘The untimely ads at the expense of our viewers’ patience’ channel. Seriously, shape up NCN, and stop robbing us of our cricket coverage if you want us to continue looking at your telecasts.
Yours faithfully,
M.A. Hassan
