The National Milling Company (Namilco) on Monday donated a number of burettes to the Chemistry Department at the University of Guyana after an appeal was made for assistance from Assistant Lecturer Nazrana Mohamed. In a press release Namilco Managing Director Bert Sukhai said Mohamed had written to him explaining that the equipment was needed for the 410 students enrolled in the CHM 111 class to do titration exercises.
Sukhai said his company was happy to assist in programmes that will aid in the development of youths and, subsequently the development of Guyana. In picture: Sukhai hands over the items to Mohamed as other staff from the Chemistry Department look on.

Slow service for single-moms: These women spent more than five hours at the Child Support section of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday waiting to be paid their dues. From left are Gayle Lewis of Linden, Onika Ramtahal (background) of Laing Avenue, Shevon Chase of Festival City and Karen Narine of Pouderoyen. Narine said that many mothers who showed up yesterday to collect their monthly child support left because they couldn’t wait anymore. Narine added that they were told to wait until 2pm yesterday for their cheques. However, the wait proved to be too long for many who were forced to return home without the much needed cash.
