– Thomas ton propels Airport X1 to victory
A brilliant 107 from Eric Thomas was just what Airport XI needed to guide them to a nine-wicket win over Country Side on Sunday as action continued in the Sonny Boy Milk Powder 15-overs softball cricket competition at the Guyana Softball, Windball and Cricket Association ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.
Thomas’s century was decorated with seven fours and five sixes as it only took Airport XI 12.3 overs to accumulate 130 runs and they only lost one wicket.
Country Side in their reply could have only mustered 120 for the loss of nine wickets from their allotted overs with Rajendra Naikbarran battling to hit 38 for the losers, while Steven Jagdeo chipped in with 32.
Kenrick Marks was the pick of the Airport XI as he grabbed four for runs and Steven Jones with three for 32 off three overs.
Meanwhile, Airport XI continued their impressive run on the day as they defeated Black Power by two wickets.
Batting first, Black Power through a well played 46 from Sunil Ramkarran raced to 130 all out off 13.5 overs. Fitzroy Nieuenkirk finished the innings with the ball picking up 3-17. Airport XI in their reply made 130-8 off 12.3 overs with Ryan Ghir 38 and Talesh Narine 30
In other matches played, Untouchable XI defeated ANS Auto Spares XI by 25 runs. Untouchable XI got 115-7 off 15 overs: Glen Seebarran 27; Fizul Khan 3-8, and Imran Khan 2-6. ANS Auto Spares XI in reply reached 90-9 off 15 overs: Mike Singh 20, Raul Narine 20; Troy Kippings 3-14 and Rubin Cummings 3-18.
Untouchable XI, in their second match, beat Hitters XI by nine wickets. Hitters XI made 92 all out off 15 overs: Shawn Mangal 35; Kippings 4-16).
Untouchable XI in reply reached 94-1 off 10.1 overs: Seebarran 48.
Annandale beat Lall’s XI by eight wickets. Lall’s XI made 156 all out off 15 overs: Kishan Singh 47, Abhilash Deokie 45 and Romain Samaroo 5-20. Annandale, in reply, made 148-2 off 11 overs: Munesh Hookum 73 not out.
Annandale West defeated Legacy XI by six wickets. Legacy XI scored 124 all out off 11.3 overs: Cecil Boodram 51, Sunil Boodram 22; Vivian Chetram 3-30 and Satesh Ramcharan 3-11. Annandale West scored 125-4 off 13.2 overs: Denesh Samaroo 55 not out and Saif Alli 38. The competition will continue on Sunday with another five matches at the same venue.
At 9:00hrs on Number Two pitch, Good Fortune XI vs. ANS Auto Spares XI; at 11:00hrs on the same pitch, Untouchable XI vs. Hanso XI; at 13:00hrs on the same pitch, Untouchable XI vs. Airport XI and 15:00hrs on the same pitch, Untouchable XI vs. Upsetters.
One game is scheduled for Number Two pitch at 9:30hrs where Regal XI will go against Ariel XI.
