Peter’s Hall businessman Dewan Roshan, who was shot during a robbery at his home two Saturdays ago, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital around 11:30 pm on Tuesday.
Stabroek News understands that persons from neighbouring villages may have been responsible for the robbery. Roshan was shot just above the belly button around 6:45 on the evening of the robbery when two bandits invaded his home and robbed him of some $80,000. The 49-year-old man was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the public hospital following the robbery and was hooked up to a life support machine up to the time of his demise.
When this newspaper visited his home yesterday, relatives were preparing for a wake to be held in his honour. His eldest sister told Stabroek News yesterday that her brother’s daughter, who is his only child, will carry on his business operations. Another relative noted that he was the youngest of nine children and the first of his mother’s children to die. She said the manner in which he was killed will always be remembered by relatives, noting that one does not know when it is his/her turn to go to the great beyond.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on his body on Friday and he is expected to be buried this weekend. Roshan leaves to mourn his siblings, mother and his daughter.
Meanwhile, Stabroek Market drink vendor Troy De Mattos, who was shot and robbed last Saturday night around 8:15, is recovering at the High Dependency Unit of the public hospital. The man was shot by a lone bandit in front of his stall. The bandit attempted to take away De Mattos’ gold chain and during a scuffle, De Mattos was shot in the chest.
A relative told this newspaper at the hospital yesterday that the bullet is still lodged in the man’s chest. The man was speaking with relatives yesterday at the hospital and his mother expressed the hope that he will recover fully from his injuries.
