– court hears
An 18-year-old man who allegedly attempted to commit a felony was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
On June 24 at Georgetown, Ryan Ramdan-Smith of 4 Vryheids Lust, Railway Line allegedly attempted to commit a felony of larceny from the dwelling house of Rehanna Yankhan.
The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
Ramdan-Smith told the court that on the day in question he had gone to his friend Trevor’s house and on his arrival he saw some strange people there. He said at this point he realised that the house did not belong to Trevor but someone else.
The defendant said that he went into the house in search of Trevor and was confronted by the real owner of the property who accused him of trying to steal items from her home. The virtual complainant was not present in court.
The unrepresented Ramdan-Smith was later refused bail and remanded to prison until July 3.
