KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – West Indies were Friday slapped with a fine for their slow over-rate following their 20-run loss to India in the opening One-Day International at Sabina Park.
The regional side were ruled to be two overs short of their target at the conclusion of India’s innings.
In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct, match referee Chris Broad fined captain Chris Gayle 20 per cent of his match while the remainder of the team were hit with 10 per cent sanctions.
Under the stipulations, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the prescribed time, while the captain is fined double the amount.
West Indies tumbled to defeat after failing to chase down India’s mammoth 339 for six off their allotted 50 overs.
