Albert Van Vieldt, who was naked and barely alive on Monday on a dam at the back of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, passed away yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where he was admitted on Monday night.
Stabroek News was unable to contact the man’s relatives yesterday but according to hospital officials the man died yesterday morning and his body is at the hospital’s morgue.
Van Vieldt of Supply, East Bank Demerara is said to be 84 and left his home since June 19 without informing his wife of his destination.
He was found naked and weak lying on the dam with his feet in water by some workers near the Lamaha Conservancy at the back of the East Bank village. Stabroek News was told on Monday night that the man may have been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and would from time to time leave his home and return in a day or too.
When the man was found he was reportedly groaning and ants and other insects were attacking him.
Workers dressed the man in a pair of trousers and shirt before he was removed by the police.
