A terrific first innings batting total for St. Pius boys and a successful run chase from St Angela’s girls brought them victory in their respective categories yesterday at the AL Sport & Tour Promotions Primary Schools Windball Cricket Competition at the National Park Tarmac.
St Pius boys defeated Monar Institute in the boys final and St Agnes got past St Sidwell’s in the third place showdown while St Angela’s girls won against St Andrew’s and Mae’s girls gained a walkover victory against West Ruimveldt girls for the third position.
In the boys category, St Pius were led by a terrific all round performance from player-of-the-match Marvin Carter who made 27 in his team’s innings of 70 – 2 and then grabbed three wickets. He was supported by Josiah Charles who made 17.
When Monar replied they were humbled to 33 – 7 in six overs as Carter and Romell Legall who also took three wickets for St Pius helped on their way to victory.
The exciting female final had St Andrew’s amassing a total of 44 in their six overs with player-of-the-match Andrikska Mickles contributing an unbeaten 18 and Destiny Haynes supporting with 12.
St Angela’s were solidly supported by the opposition’s misfielding which got them a lot of extra and safe runs.
The game then came down to five runs from the final over and St Andrew’s were safely home by the third ball to become the zone champions.
In the third place battle St Sidwell’s boys took first strike and got up to 30 before being bowled out. David Edinboro with four wickets and Dexter Nelson with three did a wonderful job for their team.
Stefon Morris (16) and Judell McAllister (9) then took to the middle and cleared the run deficit in the final over.
