Guyana’s Ian Gouveia was among the top performers at the 26th Beacon Barbados Open Golf championships played last weekend at the Royal Westmoreland Club in St. James.
Gouveia finished second with an overall net score of 230 in the men’s 1st flight (10-18 handicap) following three days of competition.
The winner in that category was Trinidadian Annan Rajpaulsingh with a net score of 225, while Trevor Tasker placed third in the group that attracted 52 golfers.
Guyana was represented by a six-member team with Alfred Mentore contesting the championship flight, Lester Alvis and Mike Guyadin who competed in the 1st flight, Jerome Khan who took part in the Senior and Clifford Reis who played in the Super Senior flight.
The team returned home Monday from the championships that attracted over 150 golfers from the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
The local players will now shift their focus to local competitions in preparation for the Suriname Open championships billed for the end of next month in Paramaribo.
