In another `battle of the juices’ clash this time in the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League competition Sunburst Camptown outdid Fruta Conquerors at the Tucville Playfield yesterday.
Sunburst Camptown won the encounter 2-0 in what was the feature match of a double header card.
In the supporting game Georgetown Football Club (GFC) drew 3-3 with BK International Western Tigers 3 – 3.
Camptown and Conquerors battled for 90 minutes in far from ideal conditions which resulted in passes and plays often broken down because of the muddy nature of the outfield.
Seon Hope scored in the 35th minute blasting the ball past a lunging Oswald Cornette in the goal.
It was the only goal of the first half.
When play resumed Camptown embarked upon numerous good runs which did not take long to pay off.
Rishawn Sandiford received a wonderful pass from midfield, moved down centre field marked closely by a defender and then released a shot to the left of the advancing goal keeper as Sunburst Camptown doubled their lead in the 51st minute.
In the GFC/Tigers showdown the teams’ strikers Peters Parks (GFC) and Devon Millington (WT) played major roles by both recording doubles.
Western Tigers drew first blood as early as the eighth minute when Millington recorded his first.
GFC answered back in the 18th minute through Parks and at half time the scoreline read 1-1.
GFC went ahead seven minutes into the second half when Anson Leitch struck in the 52nd minute but the lead only lasted for nine minutes because Ryan Thomas equalized for Western Tigers in the 61st minute.
Parks then scored in the 79th to regain the lead for his team but the opposition’s determination then gave the equalizer three minutes to the regulation time whistle as Millington recorded his second goal.
