A number of teams participating in the Guyana Softball League (GSL) Mike’s Pharmacy 15-overs-a-side softball competition romped to handsome wins last weekend in the U-15, female and Open categories at various grounds across the country.
In the U-15 category where the teams are competing for the Kidicare Trophy, Blueberry Hill (BBH) put on a terrific performance to win both matches against Uprising and Sunrise at Christianburg in Linden.
Both team Uprising and Sunrise batted first against BBH and were restricted to 46 and 80 runs respectively.
Blueberry Hill eased past those scores in 3.4 and 5.4 overs respectively for the loss of one wicket.
In other U-15 results: Zeeburg Youths XI defeated Rangers Juniors by nine runs at the Leonora Primary School Ground; Ruimzeight Juniors defeated Best Road by seven runs; Rangers Juniors defeated Superstreet XI by six wickets and Leonora Youths Warriors defeated Leonora Masjid by six wickets.
At the West Watooka ground, the home team, West Watooka, thrashed Victory Valley Kings by 52 runs while Genesis XI defeated Kara Kara Kings by 80 runs.
In the female category, West Watooka defeated Genesis XI by nine wickets. Genesis XI batted first and scored 87-4 from 10 overs. West Watooka replied with 88-1 from six overs.
In Essequibo, at the Affiance ground, Die Hard XI crushed Cullen SC by a massive 118 runs.
Die Hard XI batted first and scored 242-0 in 15 overs.
Patrick Rooplall topscored with an unbeaten 168 while Darshan Narine supported with 61 not out.
In reply Cullen SC were dismissed for 124 in 14.5 overs.
Darshan Sukhai grabbed 4-15 for the victors.
In other results, Young Warriors defeated Affiance by eight wickets while United Brothers SC beat Golden Fleece by 63 runs at the Affiance ground.
At the Leonora Primary School ground, Wolf Warriors XI defeated Young Challengers XI by a massive 130 runs. WW XI made 168-8 in 15 overs batting first with Amrit Jairam top scoring with 47.
Mahesh Sukra took 4-42.
In reply, Young Challengers were restricted to 38 all out in 6.4 overs as Timur Mohamed (3-14) and Davendra Khusial (3-13) ripped through the batting lineup.
Still at Leonora, West Side Underdogs XI beat Hubu United XI by one wicket while Hyde Park XI defeated Rangers B XI by 10 wickets.
West Bank Zone, Independence SC defeated La Grange All Youths by 12 runs and Players XI gained a walkover from Rapid Fire XI. East Coast Zone, Trophy Stall XI slammed Ogle U-19 XI by 29 runs, Upsetters XI defeated Ogle U-19 XI by 39 runs, Country Side XI defeated Hitters XI by nine wickets, Legacy XI trashed Success XI by 55 runs and Hot Steppers XI made light work of Dare Devils XI by 35 runs.
In the Berbice zone, Missophee defeated Letter Kenny by 20 runs and Whim Nationals defeated Rocketeers by 29 runs while the Wakenaam zone had Cavaliers SC beating Knight Riders. Knight Riders lost to Sarah by 16 runs and Belle Plain defeated Sarah by three wickets.
At the West Watooka Ground, Victory 14 XI defeated West Watooka by 13 runs and Wisrock Pacesetters defeated Nottinghamshire SC by six wickets while at Christianburg Ground South Star XI defeated Genesis XI by six runs.
