Dear Editor,
For anyone who has seen singer Sarah Mclaughlin’s video in support of the BC SPCA (British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) End-Animal-Cruelty campaign with her song Angel knows that cruelty to animals is a worldwide problem. In many countries humane societies are turning to their ‘Society Role Models’ to get the messages across: (1) Cruelty is unacceptable, and (2) Spaying and neutering are the answer to over-population. The video brings tears to your eyes and has inspired thousands of people to act on behalf of all animals, especially dogs. The answer to ending cruelty is to speak out – animals are voiceless.
We have incredible role models in our society whom our country and the world respect; for example, Major General (Retired) Joe Singh; cricketers, Ramesh Sarwan and Chanderpaul; animal lover, Olive Gopaul; and our President, Bharrat Jagdeo. When role models speak out, people listen.
If you know someone you think is a good role model, talk to him/her about the problem; send him/her pictures of what animal abuse is really about and then pray they will be inspired to speak out publicly and help our animals.
Please spay your animals to prevent overpopulation.
Yours faithfully,
Syeada Manbodh
