The Rotary Club of Georgetown, which marked its golden jubilee as a member of the Rotary family, having joined Rotary International in May 1959, recently installed its Board of Directors for the year 2009-2010.
In a press release the new board comprises Pradeep Samtani, president; Anna Lisa Fraser-Phang, secretary; Harry Parmesar, treasurer; Aubrey Roberts, immediate past president; John Carpenter, president elect; Amanda St Aubyn, vice president and Geert Heikens, sergeant-at-arms.
Khalil Alli, Ronald Burch-Smith, Ralph Persaud, Michael Wharton and Raj Alvis were installed as officers.
The outgoing board headed by Roberts also included Christopher Nascimento, Laurie Lewis, Keith Cholmondeley, Khanaialal Kirpalani and Maria van-Beek. Roberts presented his report for 2008-2009 following which he presented awards to Rotarians who had given outstanding service during his tenure. Past District Governor Dunstan Barrow then presented the PHF awards.
Assistant Governor Keith Williams installed the new board and congratulated the members on their accession to the leadership of the club. He told them that they would face a number of challenges which they would need to confront and conquer.
Samtani thanked the members for their confidence in conferring the leadership on him. Lewis and St Aubyn also made brief remarks at the function.
Copies of the 50th anniversary commemorative magazine were distributed to members at the ceremony.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds attended the function, which was held at the Pegasus Hotel.
