Here’s my response to Alan Fenty’s weekly column ‘Frankly speaking’ on Friday, July 3.
I won’t attempt to answer here why I left in 1982, but 27 years later, like General Douglas MacArthur I am finally returning on July 16, 2009 – the labba and creek water having finally kicked in. Good subject for quite a few upcoming ‘Nostalgias.’
In the last 9 years I have sought indefatigably from Orlando, Florida, to preserve the cultural heritage of my homeland from 1940 to 1980 with my ‘Nostalgia’ series, and this work can now best be completed where my ‘navel string’ is buried.
Hell… ‘Ah putting my money where my mouth deh’ – and the ‘proof of the pudding is in the eating’ – you figure.
Dave Martins is back and my suitcase is packed. I am aware it would be no honeymoon. Ya think it easy?
