The Guyana Netball Association (GNA) has announced that the Award Ceremony and Netball Under-16 Competition has been moved back from this Saturday to July 18.
This was confirmed by secretary of the GNA Laurence Griffith who said that the programme was to rescheduled to coincide with the arrival of President of the Caribbean Netball Association (CNA), Cathy Harper-Hall.
It is expected that all affiliated clubs, officials and GNA board and executive members would take part in the opening ceremony and march past which begins at 10am in front of the National Cultural Centre and finishes at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the venue.
Brief remarks will be made by President of the GNA, Dr. Maxine Parris-Aaron and special invited guest of CNA, Harper-Hall. Dr. Parris-Aaron said that her organisation hopes to draft in Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Frank Anthony to give the feature address.
She also indicated that trophies will be handed out based on the previous year’s performance. She also said the GNA tried to balance the extra-curricular and academic aspects so one should expect to see players being rewarded for achieving good grades at the end of this academic year.
“We try to not only focus on the playing aspect but we reward players based on their academic performance, the two are very important in their development.”
The All Stars A team were last year’s winners in the Under-16 competition with second place finishers being Doves Netball Club and in third position, the All Stars B team.
The Under-16 Inter-Club Competition will see teams from various locations battle it out for the number one spot. The teams in the draw include The Doves Netball Club from Berbice, and Rim Rockers and All Stars of Georgetown. The scheduled time for the start is 1pm.
