The Leeward Islands rebounded from losing first innings points to score a come-from-behind win over Guyana and record the first outright win of this year’s TCL/West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) tournament in Jamaica.
The determined Leeward Islands team put on a disciplined bowling effort to secure a 57-run win before tea at Up Park Camp Ground.
Guyana, set 242 to win were eventually bowled out for 184.
Spinners Tevin Osbourne and Hayden Walsh shared six wickets to lead the Leewards’ bowling.
Guyana resumed on their overnight 40 for one needing a further 202 runs to win but the 11-time champions lost wickets regularly and slipped to 114-7 at lunch.
It was downhill thereafter.
In other results Trinidad and Tobago crushed Jamaica by an innings and 64 runs while defending champions Barbados scored a resounding 54 run win over the Windward Islands.
The tournament continues tomorrow with the Leewards facing Barbados at the Elletson Road Police Ground while Guyana tackle Jamaica at Sabina Park.
