Sunburst Camptown recorded one of the most comprehensive victories by crushing Houston Stars in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYS&C)/Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Guinness Futsal Competition which got underway at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Saturday night.
Houston Stars were defeated 1 – 6 by their opponents while Beacon United defeated Plaisance Champions 2 -1, Black Pearl sunk North Grove 2 – 0, Flamingo slammed Buxton Back 4 – 0, Uprising defeated Georgetown Football Club 3 – 1, BV Sideline Dam got past Riddim Squad 2 – 1 and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) trounced South Soesdyke 4 – 1.
Fruta Conquerors and Crane Grove who were scheduled to contest the third match of the night did not because the Crane Grove team did not show up. Stabroek Sports understands that they are no longer in the tournament.
The organizers were billed to meet yesterday to decide on a solution to the problem.
Tonight there are eight matches on the card, GDF versus Independence Boulevard, GFC versus Ann’s Grove Punters, Alpha United versus Flamingo, Western Tigers versus Black Pearl, Santos versus Beacons, Sunburst Camptown versus Victoria Champions, Fruta Conquerors versus Northern Rangers and Pele versus BV Sideline Dam.
Saturday night saw Sherwin Cadogan leading the way for Camptown with two goals while
Anthony Belfield, Rishawn Sandiford, Telston McKinnon and Kester Alleyne scored one each.
Worrick Purrlett scored his team’s only goal.
Beacon recorded the first victory of the night when they scored two goals compliments of herwin Grimes and Troy Lambert to submerge Plasiance Champions whose only goal which was scored by John Eliga.
Leon Yaw was undoubtedly the best individual performer of the evening netting all four of Flamingo’s goals as Buxton Back struggled for possession.
Goals from Black Pearl’s Jason Clarke and Lomell Jackson were enough to get their team past the North Grove team who were unable to score.
Omali Nassy reaped three goals for Uprising against GFC who scored only one by Gregory Daniels while Rayon Hopkinson and Runnel Gordon accounted for BV Sideline Dam’s two goals against Riddim Squad’s whose only goal came from the boot of Amos Ramsey.
In the final game of the evening, GDF played composed, energetic football to defeat South Soesdyke.
Stellon David, Warren Gilkes and Seon Brewley each scored a goal for GDF and the fourth was a defensive error. Delon Johnson scored the opposition’s only goal to avoid a clean sweep.
