Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday granted bail to a Banks DIH truck driver and a salesman who pleaded not guilty to converting a quantity of beverages to their own use and benefit.
The driver, 24-year-old Joseph Williams of 22 John Street, Werk-en-Rust and the salesman, Delroy Andrews, 19, of Railway Embankment, Melanie Damishana both pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraudulent conversion when it was read to them at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court.
They denied that on July 8, they were entrusted by Banks DIH with a quantity of beverages valued $728,900 in order to sell and deliver the earnings to the company but they fraudulently converted same to their own use and benefit.
Attorney-at-law Glenn Hanoman, representing Williams, stated that on the day in question the truck that his client was operating had a defective canister near the front seat which could not have been locked and the money that was placed there was stolen by someone else.
The magistrate then placed both Williams and Andrews on bail in the sum of $100,000 each and ordered that they appear back in court on September 1.
