A group of young men from Experiment, Hope and Waterloo at the New Housing Scheme at Bath have come together to make a positive impact in the lives of other youths by getting them involved in sports.
Raymond Ramdatt, President of the group which is referred to as ExHoWa – from the first two letters of the three areas – told this newspaper that the idea of forming the group was “to get some unemployed youths off the streets.”
He said it was observed that the youths were finding too much time to idle and have been involved in using illicit drugs and in gambling.
Last Sunday, a cricket competition was held at a playground located in the scheme that is badly in need of upgrading. He said the game was held to raise funds to purchase sport gears, fence the ground and construct pavilions.
According to him, facilities would also be in place to accommodate sports for females. He encouraged residents of the scheme to get involved and support their effort.
Treasurer of the group which is currently being run by a steering committee, is Rashad Hamid and Dharmendra Ramnauth who is serving as secretary. There are also four committee members.
