The Guyana Table Tennis Association has selected its representative national teams for the 51st Caribbean Table Tennis championships scheduled July 20-29 in French Guiana.
According to a release from the GTTA, the teams will have a number of practice sessions before departing on Saturday.
The men’s team reads: Christopher Franklin, Paul David, Idi Lewis and Colin France while the women’s team is Michelle John, Trenace Lowe, Natalie Cummings and Jody Ann Blake.
Joel Alleyne and Nigel Bryan are the U-21 male players and Lowe, John and Cummings, the U-21 female players.
France, Sydney Christophe, Marlon Washington and Ray `Copter’ Anderson will contest the Over-40 men’s singles competition while Paul Meusa, Hewley Griffith, Dwain Dick and Steve Lawrence, who is based in French Guiana will compete in the Open men’s singles division.
Joel Wilburg has been appointed manager of the team and Linden Johnson the coach.
According to the release from the GTTA, Matthew Khan, who had been called to trials, has indicated his unavailability due to work commitments. Khan has been absent from the GTTA’s training sessions.
Meanwhile Christophe, along with his brother Mike and Andrew Gorsira were expected in Guyana yesterday.
The GTTA’s release stated that a team comprising Sydney Christophe, Gosira, France and Munroe will play a series of matches against selected teams to help the players to prepare properly for the tournament.
The release added that the GTTA was still appealing for corporate support as all of the players were not sponsored as yet. “We are still appealing for corporate support since all our bases are not covered. Many of our core players are not covered fully as yet,” the release stated.
