Three stalls in the Vendors Arcade, Water Street were last night dismantled by the Mayor and City Council.
When asked the purpose for the demolition exercise, a city constable with whom Stabroek News spoke said that she could not say why they were sent to tear the stalls apart and added that they were just executing orders given to them by City Hall.
Persons who had gathered at the scene were heard decrying the move by the Municipality as an unfair one since it would contribute to unemployment.
“This is unfair, deh messing with people bread and butter. Deh just allowing people fuh an thief,” one bystander declared.
Other persons were heard speculating that the stalls may have been dismantled since they were located in a passageway.
