A Linden driver pleaded guilty to four traffic offences and denied two other charges when he on Tuesday appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court.
Delon Lampkin was charged on Saturday with failing to stop when directed by a uniformed police officer; failing to stop the engine of his vehicle while in a stationary position; with being an untidy driver; failing to comply with police directions while regulating traffic and failing to produce his driver’s licence. On Monday Lampkin was further charged with failing to ensure the safety of passengers while driving on Pine Street, Mackenzie, Linden.
Lampkin denied the charge of failing to ensure the safety of passengers and failing to stop when directed by a uniformed police officer. He was granted $5,000 bail on each of the not guilty charges.
After the magistrate listened to Lampkin’s explanations about the other charges she reprimanded him for failing to produce his driver’s licence. She then fined him $15,000 or the alternative of two weeks imprisonment for failing to turn off his vehicle’s engine while in a stationary position; $7,500 or one week in prison for being an untidy driver and $15,000 or two weeks imprisonment for failing to complying with police directions.
Lampkin was ordered to return to court on September 27.
