A man who allegedly bit off a piece of another man’s nose was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magi-strate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on July 14 at Georgetown, Oswald Rupine, 41, of 25 Hadfield Street, Stabroek unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Shane Wong.
Rupine pleaded not guilty to the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm when it was read to him.
Attorney-at-law Mohamed Zafar who represented the defendant told the court that his client’s daughter shares a relationship with the virtual complainant (VC) and had a child with him.
Zafar added that Rupine and Wong had an argument which turned into a physical altercation when the defendant told the VC that his grandchild did not belong to him, [Wong].
The VC said, however, that the defendant went to his home and became verbally abusive telling him that the child wasn’t his and physically attacked him, biting off piece of his nose in the process.
“Meh worship is he [Rupine], who come by me an start dis whole thing, telling me how me child is nat me own. He attack me an bite off a set a flesh off meh nose,” the VC said.
The matter was called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.
The defendant was later remanded to prison until July 23.
