Ramzan Alli, the man found dead at Coldingen on Sunday died as a result of asphyxiation due to suffocation compounded by severe blunt trauma to the head, police said.
In a statement yesterday, the law enforcement authorities said that a post-mortem examination was performed on Wednesday by Dr. Nehaul Singh on Alli’s body. The cause of death was given as asphyxiation due to suffocation compounded by severe blunt trauma to the head.
The body of Alli, 45, was found in a car trunk at Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara on Sunday morning. He was discovered dead, with a plastic bag duct-taped over his head at about 8:30 am. Two suspects are being questioned. A police source had told this newspaper that hours after Alli’s body was discovered, a female relative of the man and a taxi driver were taken into custody.
A third man, Anthony Bellamy who was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder was shot by police on Monday after resisting arrest. He was hospitalized.
Alli had left his home around 9.20 pm on Saturday after receiving a phone call. After he failed to return home, police had said, relatives and employees conducted a search on Sunday morning and found the rental vehicle on the road. The police were subsequently informed and a search later revealed Alli’s body in the trunk.
Investigations are ongoing.
