KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 17, CMC – Left-arm spinner Totaram Bishun grabbed a seven-wicket haul to undermine the Windward Islands as Guyana eyed first innings points on the opening day of their TCL Group West Indies three-day Cup match at Sabina Park on Friday.
Winning the toss and batting, the Windwards were torn apart by Bishun’s haul of seven for 64 as they tumbled to 215.
Guyana then overcame an early setback to finish on 71 for two, 144 runs in arrears heading into the second day.
The Windwards’ batsmen got starts but were unable to carry on as Bishun spun his web around the innings.
Kavem Hodge stroked the top score of 42 before he was run out while captain Dalton Polius (41) and Rudolph Paul (33) chipped in with solid scores.
The Windwards lost Atticus Browne cheaply for eight with the score on 13 but Hubert Joseph (19) and Hodge put the innings back on course with a 65-run, second wicket stand.
Bishun triggered a collapse to send the Windwards toppling to 106 for four but Polius and Paul steadied the innings with a stand of 54 for the fifth wicket.
When the partnership was broken, Guyana quickly grabbed the last five wickets for 55 runs to wrap up the innings quickly.
The Windwards then claimed the scalp of opener Herell Greene for four with the score on eight but Trevon Grifftih, unbeaten on 31 at the close and Jeetendra Sookdeo (28), hauled Guyana back into the match.
