A man who allegedly attempted to murder another was yesterday placed on bail in the sum of $175,000 when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on August 7, 2008 at Georgetown, Dexter Lynch, with intent to murder, caused grievous bodily harm to Mohamed Baksh.
The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
Lynch was jointly charged for the offence with Paul James who was not present in court. The virtual complainant (VC) was also absent from court.
Attorney-at-Law Vic Puran who represented the accused told the court that the matter had already been in the court for 11 months. He called it an abuse of process by the court and state which acted in haste to their own detriment.
In making an application for bail, the lawyer said that his client is of meagre means and had already paid counsel in full, a fee which is non-refundable.
Lynch was subsequently placed on $175,000 bail and has to return to court on July 31.
