‘Duh lady does treat me nice, like de devil just get into me duh day’
A 48-year-old janitor accused of stealing $100,000 was yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on July 18 at Georgetown, Deborah Sampson of 2091 William Staad Road, Festival City stole $100,000, property of Sabita Narine.
Sampson pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to her by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
When given a chance to respond, the defendant who works for the virtual complainant (VC) at Exclusive Styles store told the court that she does not know what caused her to do what she did.
“Meh worship, me ain’t know is wah get into me duh day. Duh lady does treat me nice, like de devil just get into me duh day,” the defendant explained.
Sampson explained that she had gone into the office to clean up when she saw the money in a draw and decided to take it in order to take care of some expenses she had.
Dexter Gilhuys who appeared on behalf of the VC told the court that they were not going to pursue the matter as the defendant decided to repay the money.
A sum of $80,000 was repaid to Gilhuys and he said that he was going to accept that.
The defendant was then placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years and ordered to pay $10,000 costs.
