The African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) says that security services ranks have paid a “spate of visits” to its Executive Members’ homes recently and the organization wants an explanation for this.
“ACDA believes that these visits are intended to harass, intimidate and suppress our members constitutional and human rights for free expression, free association and their right to protest unjust acts”, the organization said in a press statement. It said that the visits, allegedly by members from the “security arm of the state”, started last Friday and have continued unabated as recently as Tuesday. The statement said that upon seeking clarification from the Guyana Police Force, a senior member stated that he was unaware of these visits.
“ACDA remains undeterred in its efforts to seek justice, speak out against the angst that our people face each day; equality in the distribution of the Nation’s resources; and most importantly we remain firmly rooted in our belief that only through a shared governance political system will the needs and concerns of all the races of Guyana be addressed equitably”, the statement said.
