A man who allegedly forged a CXC certificate to gain admission to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Cadet Officers programme was yesterday placed on bail in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Danaesh Singh, 21, of 613 Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery and uttering a forged document when they were read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
It is alleged that between February 1 and 28 at Georgetown, Singh, with intent to defraud, forged a CXC certificate.
During the same period at Georgetown also, Singh is alleged to have uttered to Glennis Joseph, a member of the GDF, a document purporting to be a CXC certificate knowing same to be forged.
Attorney-at-law Rexford Jackson who represented the defendant made an application for reasonable bail to be granted his client on the grounds that he poses no risk of flight, has no previous convictions, has a fixed place of abode and has been in full cooperation with the police in their investigations.
Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram told the court that the accused had already spent four months in the officer cadet programme when the forgery was discovered during an investigation. The prosecution had no objection to bail.
The defendant was placed on $100,000 bail for each charge and his matter was transferred to Court Six for September 1.
