KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jermaine Blackwood belted an unbeaten hundred and leg-spinner Akeem Dewar snared seven wickets and an 11-wicket match haul yesterday to set up an innings and 97-run victory for Jamaica over the Windward Islands inside two days of their TCL Group West Indies Three-day Cup Under-19 match.
Dewar tormented the Windwards’ batsmen as they crashed to 138 all out in their second innings after trailing the fourth-round fixture by 235 runs on first innings at the Jamaica Broilers Ground.
The result stretched Jamaica’s winning streak to three games, vaulting them to 36 points and a provisional lead in the championship standings, pending other match results on Thursday.
In response to the Windwards’ first innings total of 131, hosts Jamaica had earlier smashed their way to 366 for five declared behind Blackwood’s 105 not out, and the Windwards surrendered meekly in their second innings to lose – their fourth match in as many games — midway the last session with more than a day to spare.
From an overnight 185 for four in their first innings reply, the Jamaicans blistered the Windwards’ bowling in a lopsided morning session that allowed them the comfort of a lunch-time declaration.
