Brothers Mike and Sydney Christophe share one thing in common. They are both national men’s singles champion of Guyana.
Now the brothers are planning to share one more thing, – a vision to stage a table tennis reunion in Guyana.
According to Sydney who holds the record for winning the most national men’s singles title, there are over 300 former national players who are willing to come back home for what should be a grand reunion.
The brothers made the point last week at a reception they hosted at the Regency Hotel for members of the national team currently participating in the 51st annual Caribbean championships in French Guiana.
Also present at the reception was Mike Baptiste five-time former men’s singles champion.
Both Mikes, Christophe and Baptiste gave the players pep talks drawing on their wide experiences in the field which included visits to China among other countries and urged the team to bring back titles.
Mike Christophe has consistently hosted table tennis teams whenever he is in Guyana and along with another former national player Andrew Gorsira is often willing to assist with sponsorship for the players.
Meanwhile, Sydney Christophe had donated a quantity of equipment to a number of the younger players.
The equipment was handed over recently to national coach Linden Johnson and among the beneficiaries are players attending Johnson’s
summer camp which is currently in progress.
Plans are also on for Christophe and Gorsira, who arrived in Guyana last week, to conduct a training stint with players attending the camp.
