The Mayor and City Council says as some property-owners default on their accounts it is negatively impacting its ability to deliver municipal services.
In a press release the City Treasury Department says it has intensified its efforts to collect outstanding sums owed.
It is in the process of issuing demand notices to rate payers and the Council will initiate legal proceedings including the Parate Execution which gives it the authority to recover outstanding taxes by selling defaulters’ properties.
The Council said defaulters who may be experiencing difficulties can contact its offices and request to enter into a special payment plan.
It also advises property-owners that rates due in respect of general rates can be payable in four quarterly instalments.
The Council is in the process of issuing demand notices to property-owners in Riverview, Roxanne Burnham Gardens and in Agricola.
It said municipal records have shown that Agricola, North Ruimveldt, Kingston, Tucville, Lacytown and Wortmanville are among the areas where property owners owe exorbitant sums.
