The Hare Krishna Movement is hosting the Festival of the Chariot 2009, Ratha-yatra, over four days along the East Coast Demerara.
In a press release the group said the festival is the continuation of the Walking Festival it held in January. It is an age-old festival in India that is celebrated in the holy city of Jagannatha Puri and more recently by Hare Krishna devotees in all major cities worldwide.
The roster for this year’s festival includes two grand religious and cultural stage programmes tomorrow and Sunday from 5.30 pm; after a parade. Each programme will include kirtans, bhajans, dramas, lectures and presentations.
An opening ceremony for the parade will start at 2.30 pm tomorrow at the Better Hope Community Centre. Bhagavat Kathas were held yesterday and another session is scheduled for today from 6 pm.
